South Plainfield Paper Shred Event Rescheduled to October 28
The free paper shredding event that was rained out on September 23 has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 28. With the help of a grant from the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners, the Borough of South Plainfield will sponsor a FREE paper shredding event on Saturday, October 28 in the Kennedy Elementary School parking lot, 2900 Norwood Avenue. South Plainfield residents can bring confidential papers – old files, receipts, bills, financial statements – for shredding. There is no need to remove staples or paper clips. The mobile shredding truck shreds the paper on-site, so residents can see their papers being destroyed. Residents must stay in their vehicles. Paper must be easily accessible to the staff, in the trunk, cargo area or truck bed, so they can remove it from the vehicle. The truck will be at Kennedy Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or until it fills up. No more than five file boxes or 100 pounds of paper will be accepted. This program is for residential paper only; we cannot accept business papers. Plan to take your boxes and cartons home. Do not bring plastic bags. Do not bring junk mail, books, magazines or newspapers. These go with your regular recyclables at the curb or to the Borough’s Recycling Center on Kenneth Avenue. (You can black out or cut out your address before setting out mail at the curb. The entire envelope or magazine does not need to be shredded to protect your privacy.) Do not bring photographs, X-rays or CDs. Do not bring anything made of plastic. Caution: Sort through your papers and check your boxes before you come. At a recent paper shred event, we barely avoided shredding a substantial sum of money when one of the workers happened to spot the bills falling into the Toter. We also have found credit cards and various kinds of plastic trash items. Only confidential papers can go into the truck.
