Minutes from the June 16, 2010 Public Meeting                                 

of the South Plainfield Mayor and Council

 

The meeting was called to order at 6:00pm at the Senior Center by Mayor Butrico in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act, N.J.S.A. 10:4-6, with adequate notice of this meeting of the Borough Council being provided to the borough’s  official newspaper and also published on the Borough’s website. 

Clerk Graf called the roll.  Present were Council Members: Anesh, Buteas, and Rusnak.

Mr. McConville arrived shortly after the start of the meeting.

Mayor Butrico called for Ordinance # 1896

Clerk Graf read Ordinance # 1896 by title only for introduction as follows:

#1896 entitled: An ordinance appropriating $73,000 for the acquisition and installation of

  radio and related communication equipment for the South Plainfield Fire

  Dept. located within the Borough of South Plainfield, County of Middlesex,

  State of New Jersey  

Mr. Anesh made a motion to approve Ordinance # 1896 on first reading; seconded by

Mr. Rusnak.

YES:  Buteas, Rusnak, and Anesh                                                   MOTION CARRIED

ABSENT:  Bengivenga, McConville, Salerno

Mr. Anesh made a motion to approve Resolutions 158 and 159; seconded by Mr. Rusnak.

RESOLUTION # 10-158

WHEREAS, the Borough of South Plainfield requires a 3’ x 3’ permanent easement on property known as Block 328, Lot 1 ( 400 Hamilton Blvd ) for the purpose of allowing Verizon to install a telephone pole on this property; and

WHEREAS, the Borough of South Plainfield approved Resolution # 10-156 at their June 7, 2010 meeting authorizing a payment of $500.00 to the property owners of Block 328,
Lot 1 (400 Hamilton Blvd ) for said easement; and

WHEREAS, it has been determined that the payment for said easement shall be set at $1,000.00;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that approval is hereby given to amend Resolution #10-156 to reflect a total payment of $1,000.00 for a permanent easement on Block 328, Lot 1 (400 Hamilton Blvd ) to Morris Schechter.

RESOLUTION # 10-159

WHEREAS, the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Dept. submitted an application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for grant funding for the acquisition of radio and other related communication equipment; and

WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Dept. of Homeland Security have awarded a FY2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant to the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Dept. in the amount of $65,091.00 for said purpose;

 NOW, THEREFORE, the South Plainfield Borough Council hereby gratefully accepts the grant award from the FY2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant to the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Dept. in the amount of $65,091.00.

YES:  Buteas, Rusnak, and Anesh                                                   MOTION CARRIED

ABSENT:  Bengivenga, McConville, Salerno

That concluded the business portion of the meeting.  Mayor Butrico then began the Budget discussion between the Mayor and Council, the CFO and the Department Heads.  Each Department Head reviewed their individual budgetary needs with the Administration.

Mr. McConville made a motion to adjourn; seconded by Mr. Rusnak.
